Velux Roof Lite Loft Conversion
Here at Loft Conversion Birmingham we realise that not every loft requires a full blown loft conversion to achieve the extra living space that we are all looking for. We will give you real world impatial advice on what style of loft conversion is best suited to your loft space, and in certain instances this is where Velux™ roof windows come into their own.
So here are just some advantages to a Velux™ loft conversion;
A loft conversion that only has Velux™ roof lights set into the roof is the most economical, and least invasive of the types of conversion, hence they are the most popular. A big added advantage of a Velux™ conversion is that, there isn’t the need for a planning application. But bear in mind this type of conversion does have it’s limitations, and you may want to consider going the whole hog and constructing a dormer loft conversion. Contact us if you need more advice or a quotation.
Dormer Window Loft Conversion
A dormer window is added to a loft conversion where the need for extra headroom, and, or usable floor space are required. A lot of the housing stock in the Birmingham area lends itself to a rear dormer window, being of a gable roof design, which works in perfect harmony with a Velux™ window to the front elevation
Because the dormer window breaks the existing roof line Planning consent is required as well as Building Regulations. Of course the addition of a dormer will add extra cost to the project, but well worth the extra investment, to gain that extra space, natural light and ventilation, not to mention the aesthetic look of a well designed dormer window to the roof line. If a dormer window is something your not sure about, why not give the team at Loft Conversion Birmingham a call, and have a chat about it?
Hip To Gable Loft Conversion
Now were getting into some serious loft converting, but not to worry it’s all in a days work for us at Loft Conversion Birmingham, and we just love getting stuck into these. So as the name suggests, when the roof design is a hipped end we have to convert it to a gable end to ensure we gain the most usable floor area.
So just to be clear, a hip to gable conversion is required when a property has a hipped end (that’s three sides) to the roof. This is usually done to accommodate the need for extra floor space, and to house the new staircase to access the loft conversion. The end wall is raised up to either form a gable end to the roof or a dormer window can be constructed. This would of course add to the overhaul cost of the project, but bear in mind this style will need planning consent and Building Regulations, and as a rule a builder would be contracted to construct the gable end.
Bay Dormer Loft Conversion
A bay dormer is required when the main roof has a hipped end, and the need is for headroom and space to install the new staircase. This is generally achieved by constructing a dormer window over the new stair position, creating natural light and ventilation, with out the added cost of builder, to build up the gable wall, as in the case of a hip to gable, and as such the whole build of the bay dormer falls within the scope of the Loft Conversion Birmingham construction team. but of course also be aware that Planning Consent along with Building Regulations are still required for this style of loft conversion also. As always if you have a niggling questions you need answering please take the time to contact us.
